Michael Lynch was eliminated on the American Idol results show Wednesday night, May 12. American Idol season 9′s top three are Crystal Bowersox, Lee DeWyze and Casey James.
Casey James was the first sent to safety, followed by Lee DeWyze. Crystal and Mike were left waiting in anticipation to see who would be sent home. When Ryan Seacrest announced Crystal as the last to make the top 3, Mike’s wife broke into tears. Crystal joined her friends on the stage, clearly a bittersweet moment for her.
Michael Lynche performed Michael Jackson’s “Will You Be There” from the movie Free Willy Tuesday night. The judges were not particularly pleased with his performance. He also performed a duet with Casey James, singing Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?
The top three will be traveling to their hometowns next week. Twenty-four year old Crystal Bowersox will head home to Toledo, Ohio, 27 year old Casey James will go back to Fort Worth, Texas and 24 year old Lee DeWyze will go home to Mount Prospect, Illinois.
After being eliminated, Ryan Seacrest asked Michael Lynch for his thoughts on the journey.
“It’s been unbelievable,” Lynch said. “I sit here right now and think, ‘I wasn’t even supposed to be here.’ Thank God for the judges saving me.”
Tonight’s show featured performances by Fantasia, Chris Daughtry and Bon Jovi. Fantasia performed “Bittersweet,” from her upcoming third album. Chris Daughtry and his band performed his new single September and Bon Jovi performed his song Superman Tonight from his latest album The Circle.
