Annette Roque accused her husband Matt Lauer, co-host of the Today show, of cheating on her during his coverage of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver in February.
Suspicions allegedly arose when Matt not only stood his wife up on Valentine’s Day, but also chose to remain in Vancouver for an extended period of time after the Today show crew wrapped production and returned to New York. A source says Matt was spotted drinking and flirting with women, two pretty Canadian broadcasters in particular.
It is reported that Annette was informed of her husband’s flirting by the wife of another Today show staff member. She also got the names of the two female broadcasters he was allegedly spotted with, and confronted Lauer upon his return home.
Matt Lauer, 52, has denied the allegations, but has reportedly moved out of the New York City home he shares with his wife Annette Roque, 44, and their three young kids, says The National Enquirer. It is also said that Annette isn’t wearing her wedding ring.
This isn’t the first time the couple have hit a rough patch in their 12 year marriage. They briefly separated in 2006 when Annette was pregnant with their third child. She withdrew the divorce request after one month.
The couple has three young children together, Jack, 8, Romy, 6, and Thijs, 2. They are said to be sharing parenting duties and spending weekends together for the kids’ sake.
Matt Lauer’s ex-wife, Nancy Alspaugh told the Enquirer, ‘‘I heard he and Annette are breaking up. I was not shocked to hear that but it’s very sad.’’
A “Today” show insider who said that Lauer is trying to keep his martial issues “on the down low.” Apparently NBC executives are worried about Lauer’s family man image with his female audience base.
