Casey James was kicked off American Idol on May 19 and Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox are the top 2 and will move on to compete in the finale.
Casey James did not get favorable remarks from the judges Tuesday night after singing “OK, It’s Alright With Me” by Eric Hutchinson and “Daughters” by John Mayer, which was chosen by Kara DioGuardi and Randy Jackson.
Crystal Bowersox sang “Come To My Window” by Melissa Etheridge for her first pick. “Maybe I’m Amazed” by Paul McCartney, was Ellen DeGeneres’ pick for Crystal. The panel weren’t thrilled with either performance, but said they were both good.
Lee DeWyze started with “Simple Man” by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Simon Cowell’s song choice for him was “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen. Simon tells Ryan he picked it to give Lee a “moment”. It was a wise pick indeed, as he got a standing ovation from the crowd. The judges loved both of his performances and said he owned the show that night.
Apparently America agreed with judges, as Casey James did not get enough votes to make it into the top two.
“I’m so thankful for the opportunity,” James said after host Ryan Seacrest announced he had been eliminated. “It’s been an amazing, amazing journey, and I’m just so honored that I’m here. It’s amazing.”
He then sang “Daughters” again, stopping to sing to Kara DioGuardi and then picking up a little girl from the audience as he finished his performance.
Both Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox have never been in the bottom three and were an expected top two early on.
Wednesday night’s show featured a performance from gossip blogger Perez Hilton’s latest obsession, Travis Garland, who sang “Believe”. Justin Bieber also performed, singing his hits “U Smile” and “Baby.”
The two part season finale will kick off Tuesday, May 25 on Fox.
