Brittany Murphy’s husband, Simon Monjack, was found dead in their Hollywood Hills home on Sunday night, May 23.
Simon Monjack, a 39-year-old British screenwriter appeared to have died of a heart attack. Police said there were no signs of foul play.
“We concluded there are no signs of foul play or any criminal activity involved,” said Sgt. Alex Ortiz, a police spokesman.
An emergency call came in Sunday night from a female that sources say was Brittany Murphy’s mother, Sharon, who lived in the home with her son-in-law, Simon Monjack.
“This evening Mr. Monjack was found unresponsive. Paramedics responded to the house, he was pronounced at [9:45 p.m.],” said coroner’s lead examiner Ed Winter. “It appears to be natural.
“There were some prescription drugs found that belonged to Mr. Monjack and will have an ongoing investigation. The cause of death is pending. We will have an autopsy in the next day or so. And pending toxicology, we will be releasing results once we get all those tests back.”
Winter added that “there were no illicit drugs located, just prescription meds.”
Simon Monjack’s wife, actress Brittany Murphy, died in their home just 5 months ago, December 2009, at the age of 32. Her cause of death was said to be from pneumonia, an iron deficiency and multiple drug intoxication.
Following Murphy’s death, Monjack said in an interview that he suffered from seizures and had suffered a heart attack while returning from a vacation in Puerto Rico in 2009.
Simon Monjack’s work includes writing 2006′s Factory Girl and 2001′s Two Days Nine Lives.
