World Cup 2010: Germany and Spain Advance to Semifinals

The 2010 FIFA World Cup continued Saturday, July 2 in South Africa with the quarterfinals. The quarterfinals matches included Germany vs Argentina and Spain vs Paraguay.

Germany won, beating Argentina 4-0

Miroslav Klose scored two of Germany’s goals in the quarterfinals game against Argentina. Thomas Müller and Arne Friedrich scored the other two Germany goals.

“To lose like that is very painful,” Argentina forward Carlos Tevez said. “We played badly and sometimes when you make mistakes you go home.”

Spain won Saturday, beating Paraguay 1-0.

Xabi Alonso scored the one goal for Spain in the World Cup quarterfinals game against Paraguay.

Spain will play Germany on Wednesday, July 7 in the 2010 World Cup Semifinals in South Africa.

“The Germans have played a brilliant World Cup so far,” Iniesta said. “We’re also at the top of our game, I think. It will be a game between two rivals who enjoy having the ball and I think it will be a beautiful battle.”

Uruguay will face the Netherlands in the 2010 World Cup Semifinals in South Africa on Tuesday, July 6.
