Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg are The Other Guys, opening Friday

Bringing together Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg for a comedy is much like Rihanna and Eminem uniting for a ballad, but it happened, and it could work. The Other Guys opens August 6, alongside co-stars Eva Mendes, Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson. (Samuel L. Jackson… The uncredited narrator of Inglourious Basterds.)

The Other Guys is a comedy about two unlikely paired NYPD detectives (Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg) who are overshadowed by two of “the baddest and most beloved cops in New York City,” played by Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson. Detectives Allen Gamble (Ferrell) and Terry Hoitz (Wahlberg) find themselves involved in a case, which could be the city’s biggest crime, that is left entirely up to them, as described by Sony Pictures. “But do they have the right stuff?” I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt that yes, they do have the right stuff.

Eva Mendes stars as Dr. Sheila Gamble, Allen Gamble’s wife, and she apparently plays the role as the unexpected pretty wife of the not-so-good-looking husband. Classic. Spoiler alert: Wahlberg’s cop character pours hot coffee on Ferrell’s.

I imagine there will be an abundancy of jokes throughout this motion picture. Get ready to laugh your pants off.
