The finale of HGTV’s Design Star season 5 aired Sunday night, revealing the winner to be Emily Henderson.
In the season finale, finalists Emily Henderson and Michael Moeller were given a one bedroom apartment to redesign using their show concepts – Emily’s concept was “Style to Lifestyle” and Michael’s was “Design Revolution”.
The 10 contestants that had been eliminated off the show, returned to assist the finalists. Emily and Michael chose their teams and then had to choose on of their teammates to inspire their show. Emily chose Tom Vecchione, who’s known for his modern suits and sleek style. Michael chose Nina, who he felt would fit his show concept best, which focuses on “starter-outers”.
The two had to host a show of their design, including introductions, the design process and the reveal to the client.
Both designers did well on their videos, but the judges felt Emily was the better choice for the next Design Star.
