Former WWE Star Gertrude ‘Luna’ Vachon Dies

Former WWE Superstar Gertrude ‘Luna’ Vachon died Friday morning, August 27, 2010 at her mother’s home in Florida at the age of 48.

The cause of death has not yet been released, so it is unknown at this time how Luna passed away.

Luna wrestled for the WWE from 1993 to 2000 and also wrestled for WCW and ECW. Luna was the daughter of Paul “Butcher” Vachon and the niece of Maurice “Mad Dog” Vachon. Vachon was most notably married to former WWE wrestler Gangrel (David Heath) before they divorced in 2006.

Those part of the wrestling industry have been voicing their sympathy for Luna and her family.

The National Wrestling Alliance issued a statement, saying, “The NWA would like to extend its thoughts and condolences to the family of Luna Vachon, who has died at the age of 48. There are few families who have given more to professional wrestling than the Vachons. Please keep them in your thoughts.”

WWE Diva Natalya wrote on her Twitter page today, “RIP, Luna Vachon. You were loved by many. My heart goes out to you.”

Wrestling Promoter and friend David Herro wrote on his twitter, “With a broken heart I am crushed 2 tell u that one of the most amazing people I have ever known has died. God Bless Luna Vachon. I love u”
