‘Viva Forever’ – A Spice Girls Musical?!
The details on the Spice Girls’ musical collaboration with Mamma Mia! stage producer, Judy Craymer, have been released.
Sorry all you Spice Girls fans, the musical, currently titled, Viva Forever, won’t be about the ‘Wannabe’ singers, rather, it will be about a reality TV show.
Producer Judy Craymer revealed to BANG Media that the upcoming musical, Viva Forever, will use the quintet’s hits, but “won’t be a tribute or bio show.” Instead, it will comment on the modern fame game that reality TV shows have magnified in the current era of ‘instant celebrity.’
Craymer explains, “We live in a world dominated by people wanting to be famous. What the Spice Girls did was before those shows became really what they are, and before the world become slightly obsessed by such shows.”
The musical will be written and produced by Craymer, who further explains, “‘Viva Forever’ will encompass the Spice Girls ethos of friendship, identity and being true to yourself, it won’t be a tribute or bio show, nor will it feature characters with any of the names of the famous five piece.”
Craymer promises that even though the musical examines fame, it will have comedic elements: “It has a glimpse of the underbelly of TV talent shows, an invented show, and a little bit of comedy romance.”
Melanie Brown (Scary Spice), Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice), Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty Spice), and Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice) began discussing the musical late last year. According to Brown, they’re happy to be collaborating with Craymer, “All five of us are really super excited. We don’t do anything unless all five agree.”
Viva Forever will reportedly include 14 of the girl group’s songs and is set to hit the stage in 2012.
Anyone else as excited to re-live the 90s (at least through music)?! Girl Power!
