The Facebook Movie!
The life of Facebook’s CEO and co-founder, Mark Zuckerberg, will be displayed on the big screen in The Social Network.
Zuckerberg’s “500 million friends” will be pleased to see The Social Network hit theatres on October 1st. The film will depict Zuckerberg, played by Jesse Eisenberg, as a sex-crazed nerd.
With the tag-line, “You don’t get to 500 million friends without making a few enemies,” the film tells the story of the 26-year old entrepreneur’s success, as well as his personal and legal battles.
The Social Network is based on The Accidental Billionaires, a novel by Ben Mezrich about Facebook’s ivy league roots. Though Zuckerberg didn’t allow an interview with Mezrich for his book, Mezrich revealed to The Globe and Mail that he had plenty of reliable sources to piece the story together. Since the film’s script recently leaked online, juicy tidbits about Zuckerberg’s pursuit of girls and cash during his college days have also been revealed.
The timing of this leak is horrible for Zuckerberg, since Facebook users have widely demanded more privacy controls, while tech early adopters have publicly given up their accounts. It’s interesting to see whether viewers will buy into Zuckerberg’s mischievous portrayal in the film.
I’m sure The Social Network will do great at the box office. I mean, it is about a world-wide loved phenomenon that only 500 million people are obsessed with. Oh, and Justin Timberlake also stars in the film, so it’ll clearly be a hit.
I wonder if Zuckerberg will Tweet – I mean, update, his Facebook status about it.
