Tiger Woods Chosen for Ryder Cup Team

Despite Tiger Woods’ winless season thus far this year, Corey Pavin made Woods one of his captain’s picks for the U.S. team that will face the best European players in the 2010 Ryder Cup.

This is the sixth Ryder Cup team for Woods, but this is the first time he didn’t qualify for it. Tiger Woods has been dealing with his divorce from ex-wife Elin Nordegren and the media attention that surrounded it. The divorce was finalized last month, and may be what Woods needs to refocus on his golf career.

The other pro golfers chosen by Pavin for the Ryder Cup team were Stewart Cink, Zach Johnson and Rickie Fowler.

The eight U.S. golfers who qualified for the Ryder Cup after the PGA Championship were Phil Mickelson, Hunter Mahan, Steve Stricker, Jim Furyk, Matt Kuchar, Bubba Watson, Dustin Johnson and Jeff Overton.

The Ryder Cup will take place October 1-3 at the Celtic Manor in Newport, Wales.
