Eminem, who has been nominated for eight Moonmen this year, will be the opening act of the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards.
“We thought that there’s no better way to kick off the show than a performance from Eminem,” MTV general manager Stephen Friedman said.
The details of Eminem’s performance have been kept secret, but VMA executive producer Dave Sirulnick says it will be a “triumph.”
“Eminem is opening the show, and the theme of his performance is ‘triumph,’ ” Sirulnick told MTV News. “It’s a testament to the year he’s had, his return to the top.
“He tells a story, and the viewers will definitely pick up on that.”
Other performances at this year’s VMAs include Justin Bieber, Drake, Usher, Lincoln Park and Swizz Beatz.
The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will take place Sunday, September 12 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. The awards show will begin at 9:00 p.m. EST.
