Taylor Swift took to the stage to perform a new song aimed at Kanye West, and this time, she let no one interrupt her.
Swift’s passionate performance was a surprise, as it wasn’t announced by MTV. She sang an unreleased track that was prefaced with video clips of last year’s stage-crashing incident.
Even though West’s name was never mentioned, the song’s lyrics certainly made references to him, “Some things you can’t speak of, but tonight you live it all again.”
A Gothic-inspired living room was set behind Swift as she sang, “You have new Septembers. Everyone one of us has messed up, too.”
When the performance ended, the audience gave her a standing ovation. Though West was not shown or seen during her performance, he got the last performance of the night.
West debuted, “Runway,” an unreleased track. Dressed in a bright red suit, West began rapping, “You’ve been putting up with my s–– for way too long,” as ballet dancers joined the stage.
He continued, “Let’s have a toast for the douchebags. Let’s have a toast for the a––s. Let’s have a toast for the scumbags. Let’s have a toast for the jerk–s. Baby, I got a plan. Runaway fast as you can.”
The audience applauded and chanted his name in unison after he was done.
I wonder if this was the song that West intended to perform for Swift as his apology. After all, he did Tweet his sincere apologies to Swift, saying that he wrote her a song. “I wrote a song for Taylor Swift that’s so beautiful and I want her to have it. If she won’t take it then I’ll perform it for her.” (Read the full story here).
The untitled song that Swift performed tonight is set to make it on Swift’s third album, Speak Now, due out October 25th. No word on West’s official release of “Runaway” yet.
