Producers of NBC’s The Office are planning a tribute to Fox’s Glee. The crossover episode will have characters watching Glee episodes.

According to the New York Post, the episode debuting November 11th will have the Dunder Mifflin employees enjoying a Glee marathon party.

The Office executive producer Paul Lieberstein says NBC executives “weren’t thrilled” by the crossover, but aren’t dismissing the idea.

Glee creators Ian Brennan, Brad Falchuk and Ryan Murphy eagerly approved to have scenes from their hit show featured on The Office.

“They’re (Glee creators) always so supportive and creatively understanding that when we get really excited about something, they let us do it,” Lieberstein told the New York Post.

Lieberstein explains that he wanted to feature Glee because it has become a pop culture “phenomenon.” He’s hoping the audience will find the idea just as hilarious as he does. “We watch a lot of TV, we watch ‘Glee.’ We like it… I don’t know – someone said the words ‘Glee viewing party’, and it just made us laugh so hard that we had to do it.”

Lieberstein revealed that the episode will have Gabe (Zach Woods) host the Glee party for his co-workers, in order to gain popularity at Dunder Mifflin.

“It’s mostly thrown by Erin (Ellie Kemper), who would like the office – and particularly Michael (Steve Carell) – to like Gabe a little more. So she thinks this will make him a little more popular if he hosts the party,” Lieberstein said.

I think it’s a great idea!  Too bad we couldn’t see Michael Scott and Sue Sylvester meet. I’m hoping Michael Scott will perform a number. I bet he’s just as good as Rachel (Lea Michele) and Finn (Cory Monteith).

What do you think about the Glee tribute, Office fans?
