Top Chef’s Padma Lakshmi Runs 70 Flights of Stairs to Burn Calories

Ohh the ‘ole “running 70 flights of stairs” trick… Top Chef host and judge Padma Lakshmi knows the basics: exercise, burn calories and you’ll stay thin.

Since having a baby earlier this year and because of all the taste-testings on Bravo’s Top Chef, Padma burns tons of calories during rigorous workouts to maintain her slim figure, and these workouts are both traditional and non-traditional.

At The ELLEments of Personal Style book launch party in NYC, the former model told PopEater: “I woke up at 6AM, I nursed. Then I ran up and down 70 flights of stairs. Then I had breakfast, then went to the gym and lifted weights for an hour. Then I walked home.”

(But what was for lunch?)

Padma has also been determined to keep off the baby weight because of her pregnancy. Her daughter Krisha was born February 20. ”She’s great. She’s crawling,” she gushed about the 8-month-old. When asked about the pairs’ Halloween plans, Padma responded, “I’m going to dress up, but I haven’t figured out what I’m going to wear.”

The 39-year-old actress and writer initially kept quiet about the identity of her daughter’s father. Eventually it surfaced that businessman Adam Dell, brother of billionaire computer mogul Michael Dell, is the father. Padma is happily raising her daughter in a traditional Indian (and “single-mother?”) upbringing.
