LeAnn Rimes, the cover girl in Shape magazine’s latest issue was missing from the party that celebrated her own cover.
A source told People that even though the magazine scrambled in Rimes’ absence, their January cover girl, Brook Burke stepped in to host the party at Trousdale nightclub in Los Angeles.
“Shape was excited to throw LeAnn the party. The people at the magazine wanted her to know they were happy with the cover and wanted to maintain a good relationship with her,” the source said.
The source added, “Even though everyone kept cool on the surface when news of LeAnn’s no-show occurred, the magazine wasn’t sure how to approach the guests. The editor-in-chief cracked a joke on a riser to the crowd about issues she and LeAnn have had in the media. But her comments seemed all in light-hearted fun.”
Rimes not showing up for the party was thought to be a response to Shape editor Valerie Latona’s apology to readers for putting Rimes on the cover, especially with the drama surrounding her affair (read more here).
Rimes’ rep, however, claims that Rimes’ absence had nothing to do with the controversy, saying that Rimes was sick with the flu and couldn’t show up to the party. “Unfortunately [Rimes] caught the flu and under doctor’s orders was advised not to travel or go out,” Rimes’ rep told the New York Post.
Rimes clarified this herself on Friday, Tweeting, “Headed to the Dr. in a bit. This flu thing is hard to shake. Just to clarify, I was never supposed to sing at the Shape party and yes, under Dr.’s orders I couldn’t go. I spoke to Valerie yesterday I don’t know how many times and all is well w/ absolutely NO controversy. Just happen to get sick at the ‘perfect’ time, SUCKS!!”
Rimes also had to postpone a New York concert planned for Friday night.
