There have been Prince William and Kate Middleton engagement rumors for quite some time, but it is now official! The proposal took place when the couple was on vacation in Kenya, Africa in October, and was described as “very romantic” by bride-to-be Kate.
“The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince William to Miss Catherine Middleton. The wedding will take place in the Spring or Summer of 2011, in London. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course,” an official statement released on Tuesday said.
William gave his fiancée Kate the engagement ring that his late mother Princess Diana wore.
“It’s very special to me. As Kate’s very special to me now, it was right to put the two together,” William said during the announcement of their engagement today.
The couple has been dating for eight years, leaving many to wonder what took William so long to pop the question.
“The timing is right now. We’re both very happy, and I’m very glad that I have done it,” William said.
No official wedding date has been announced, but earlier speculations pointed to August 2011.
