Tyra Banks Directing Drama?

Emmy-winning talk show host, model, and producer added ‘director’ to her resume on Wednesday’s episode of America’s Next Top Model.

Banks directed a two-minute film that Top Model finalists Ann, Chelsey, Jane and Kayla were featured in.

“A lot of designers and people in the fashion industry are feeling like the future of fashion is not just still photos, but they’ve been doing mini movies where the models are acting things out,” Banks, 36, said.

In past Top Model seasons, contestants are involved in a shoot that Banks photographs herself, since she’s picked up photography as a hobby. Banks admitted that going from photographer to director is a challenge.

“Photography has been my own personal hobby for the last 8 years, so I was ready for movement. But it was so hard,” Banks explained.

Banks’ short took a day to film in a castle in Verona, Italy, and included high fashion and crying scenes which Banks compares to an “over-the-top Italian drama.”

“It was 100 degrees and the girls were really struggling with the heat. But when I got to editing, I was like, ‘Oh my god, I love this!’ ” Banks continued.

And we might see Banks in the director’s chair more often. Since her talk show ended, Banks will be launching Bankable Studios, a film production company based in New York.
