Boy band fever exploded at the 2010 American Music Awards tonight, thanks to the New Kids On The Block and Backstreet Boys’ joint performance.
Since the announcement of their NKOTBSB joint tour next year (read more), fans have been looking forward to the “Once in a lifetime” opportunity to see Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, AJ McLean, and Brian Littrell of the Backstreet Boys, performing with Joey McIntyre, Jordan Knight, Jonathan Knight, Donnie Wahlberg, and Danny Wood of New Kids On The Block.
On Sunday’s 2010 American Music Awards, at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, California, fans took part in a moment of history: two of the greatest boy bands on one stage. Both New Kids and BSB fans got a sneak peek at what they could expect on the NKOTB tour next summer. And they went wild.
NKOTBSB performed a mash-up of each band’s greatest hits, including the Backstreet Boys’ “Backstreet’s Back” and New Kids’ “Step By Step.” Of course their performance, which closed the awards show, included their ever swoon-worthy choreography, as well as an explosion of confetti.
The Twitter shout outs and trending began flooding as soon as the guys put their microphones down. The Backstreet Boys joined in, Tweeting, “Oh my god!! What an adrenaline rush. We want to go around! #AMA2010 #nkotbsb”
On his own Twitter account, Nick Carter happily Tweeted, “I want to say that I am so happy and grateful to be a part of something so special. Thank you @nkotb. I am so happy that we share the drive.”

Seeing the two greatest boy bands perform together (in total Glee-mash-up fashion) seriously made me hyperventilate while searching for NKOTBSB concert tickets. Let the swooning begin! (Have I mentioned I’m marrying Nick Carter?).
Keep the Backstreet-New Kids pride alive!
