Just three weeks after it’s launch, Kim, Khloe and Kourtney have pulled the plug on the Kardashian prepaid debit MasterCard due to harsh criticism over the high fees of the card.
According to a letter sent Monday by the Kardashians’ attorney Dennis A. Roach, the sisters no longer want their image associated with the debit card.
A Kardashian credit card sounded like a great idea – who wouldn’t want to see Kim Kardashian’s beautiful face every time they swipe their debit card? But unfortunately that comes at quite the cost, and consumers are not too happy about it.
Connecticut Atty. Gen. Richard Blumenthal gave a shopping season warning to consumers regarding the card, saying, “I am deeply disturbed by this card’s high fees combined with its appeal to financially unsophisticated young adults. In reality, no family can ‘keep up with the Kardashians’ using this card.”
Blumenthal continues to say the family “is marketing a dangerous financial fantasy.”
“The card is filled with gotcha fees and charges, such as $99.95 annual fees, $7.95 monthly fees (after the first year), ATM withdrawal fees, bill pay fees, loading fees — and even charges for talking to a live operator at their service center and a card cancellation fee” Blumenthal says.
in a letter regarding the Kardashian’s desire to remove themselves from the card, Kardashian attorney Roach states, “The Kardashians have worked extremely long and hard to create a positive public persona that appeals to everyone, particularly young adults. They have been successful in doing so because they are recognized as honest, ethical and fun-loving individuals who are kind and caring to others.
“Unfortunately the negative spotlight turned on the Kardashians as a result of the Attorney General’s comments and actions threatens everything for which they have worked.”
