Christina Aguilera filed for divorce in October of this year from her husband of almost five years, Jordan Bratman. Now Christina Aguilera is opening up about why the marriage had to come to an end.
“Things were so unhealthy and unhappy for both Jordan and me, I knew I had to end it,” Christina Aguilera told People magazine in an exclusive interview. “I really didn’t want to hurt Jordan, and I felt torn about splitting our family up.”
She says the decision to divorce was in the best interests of her two-year-old son Max.
“When you’re unhappy in your marriage, your children are the ones who suffer,” Aguilera says, whose own parents’ divorced when she was seven-years-old. “That’s the last thing I wanted for my son.”
Since the divorce, Aguilera has been seen out with a set assistant from Burlesque, Matthew Rutler.
“He’s the kind of person you could spend hours with on the phone talking to and all of a sudden it’s daylight,” Aguilera tells People of Rutler.
