For a brand that began as men’s footwear for surfers, NFL star Tom Brady is the handsome male-model muse who will be bringing the UGG boot back to its roots. Deckers Outdoor Corporation has announced that New England Patriots’ Tom Brady will “launch its first men’s marketing initiative.”
“Tom Brady is the ideal first endorser for the brand,” said Deckers Outdoor Corporation Chairman and CEO Angel Martinez in a press release.“He embodies the stylish casual attitude that is at the foundation of every product we make, and is as much a style icon off the field as he is a playmaker on it.”
UGG boots – a designer name synonymous with furry winter footwear primarily loved by women was first introduced in 1978 to the United States by Australian Brian Smith. The boots were worn by Californian surfers, yet eventually became a brand that diversified itself into stylish slippers, casual outerwear, handbags and accessories.
Tom Brady will lead the brand back to its original wearer – men. UGG(R) Australia President Constance X. Rishwain says that this collaboration “gives us the unique opportunity to create new energy around our men’s product and launch our first marketing campaign targeted to the male consumer.”
The global campaign will be launched for the 2011 fall line.
“I have worn and loved the UGG brand for a long time,” Tom Brady says. “This collaboration gives me an opportunity to work with a leading global brand with a great history and a true vision for the future of its men’s collection. It’s an exciting time to be part of the UGG(R) Australia team.”
