Shelley Malil, an actor from the film The 40-Year-Old Virgin, was sentenced to life in prison for stabbing his ex-girlfriend more than 20 times.

The Associated Press reports that Malil, 45, was sentenced on Thursday by Judge Harry Eilas in San Diego County Superior Court. He has a chance for parole in nine years.
Malil was convicted of attempted premeditated murder and assault with a deadly weapon in September.
He had testified that he visited Kendra Beebe in August 2008 at her San Marcos house to apologize for taking things from her home. He used a kitchen knife to stab her after found her with another man.
Malil played Haziz in the The 40-Year-Old Virgin, a co-worker of Steve Carell’s character.
