Colombian singer Shakira and Antonio de la Rúa, son of former Argentine president Fernando de la Rúa, broke up last summer after dating for 11 years.
Shakira said on her blog, “Since August 2010, we made a mutual decision to take time apart from our romantic relationship. Throughout this time we have continued to work together hand in hand, have remained close and have kept the details absolutely private until now. ”
“The Hips Don’t Lie” singer expressed that during their 11 years together, they loved one another deeply and stood by each other; their partnership was full of respect and love.
The separation that has been kept quiet for months is temporary so that both can grow as individuals, while still remaining professional business partners.
“Antonio continues to oversee and conduct my business and career interests as he has always done. We move forward as partners, developing projects together, working hand in hand and in close communication. Our friendship and understanding of one another is unwavering and indestructible,” she said.
An insider for US Weekly said, “There was no big drama, it’s just one of those things where they had been together a long time and realized they were more friends and business partners than lovers. It’s sad, but they could get back together. They just needed a break.”
The unwavering and indestructible couple started dating in 2000. For an interview in 2009, Shakira stated that she and de la Rua had a profound relationship, despite not being married and that “they don’t need papers for that.”
