Peter Brant II, 17, and supermodel Stephanie Seymour, 41, made headlines when pictures of the son and mother kissing and hugging affectionately surfaced online.
“I would just like to say that these pictures have been taken completely out of context, my mother and i are very close as she is with all her children,” he wrote in a statement.
“she often hugs and kisses me and my siblings in an manner that is intimate, any mother in the world does the same. that day on the beach we walked around with each other completely aware of the presence of photographers there.”
The two were on the beach in St. Barth’s over the holidays and were photographed kissing on the mouth as Brant’s hand brushed up on his mother’s breast. Brant refutes opinions and speculation on his personal relationship with his mother and referred to the “whole beach kiss scandal” as a “malicious attack.”
“We have nothing to hide and with that in mind I would like to say that I am openly gay,” he wrote. “At my age my mother and I are almost like friends and I feel open to talk to her about anything (and yes our relationship may be different because of my sexuality).”
Regardless of criticisms and controversy, Brant received an outpour of support on his Facebook page, which labels him as a “Designer, Art Collector, Socialite, and Model, and the eldest son of Supermodel Stephanie Seymour and Newsprint Billionare Peter Brant I.” Celebrating his 1,000th Facebook fan he was quoted as saying, “I knew this day would come… I would just like to thank myself for being conceited and fabulous.” As of this morning, Brant’s Facebook page had more than 1,400 fans. (Victory!)
Today Brant wrote, ”I appreciate everyone’s support on the media issue and I hope that soon all the online pandemonium will die down and we can focus on more important things…. Like Paris fashion week.”
