Poison frontman and Celebrity Apprentice winner Bret Michaels had surgery on Monday, Jan. 24 at t. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix to repair a hole in his heart.
The hole in 47-year-old Michaels’ heart was found last May after he suffered a “warning stroke.”
“Bret Michaels underwent a successful heart procedure today at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix,” the hospital said in a statement. “Michaels is currently recuperating at St. Joseph’s where he remains for observation in ICU.”
Michaels had some major medical scares last April, starting with an emergency appendectomy followed by a severe brain hemorrhage.
Michaels, who recently got engaged to his longtime girlfriend Kristi Gibson, said he was feeling very optimistic about the heart surgery.
“I gotta tell ya, I’m very positive,” he said. “I feel positive they’re going to do an amazing job. They’ve done thousands of these operations.”
