James Franco Will Play Nice at the Oscars

James Franco doesn’t plan to follow Ricky Gervais in bashing celebrities when he hosts the 83rd annual Academy Awards.

Gervais’ jokes and insults caused some uproar when he hosted the Golden Globes. When asked if he’d follow Gervais’ approach while hosting the Oscars, Franco said no.

“I haven’t really read any of the reviews, but my sense is that he was not really winning in that room. People were asking me, like, ‘Are you going to look at Ricky as a model for how you’re going to host?’ and I’m just not going to take too much from Ricky,” Franco told MTV.

Franco, who will co-host alongside Anne Hathaway, says Gervais’ routine is simply not his style.

“The flip side is, people I know outside of the movie industry, like at school and stuff, were like, ‘Aww, Ricky was awesome!’ So I guess people want to bash some celebrities. I won’t be the one to do the bashing, but maybe people will bash me,” Fraco said.

Catch Franco, who is also nominated for Best Actor for his performance in 127 Hours, on the Oscars on February 27.

What did you all think of Ricky Gervais’ jokes? I thought they were hilarious, but I’m curious to see what Franco and Hathaway come up with.
