Christina Aguilera is all the talk today after her performance at Super Bowl XLV yesterday – and not in a good way. The Grammy Award winning superstar flubbed the words of the National Anthem.
Aguilera, 30, has sung the National Anthem many times without any mistakes, including Game 7 of last year’s NBA finals.
“What so proudly we watched at the twilight’s last reaming,” she sang, repeating an earlier line she botched, when the line should have been, “O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming.”
The internet was immediately flooded with harsh criticism over her mistake.
“Egypt thanks Christina Aguilera for botching the national anthem and bumping them off the Twitter trending list,” one user tweeted.
“Blowing the words of the anthem at the Super Bowl. Wow. Do they take away one of her five Grammys for that? Two?” Sports Illustrated’s Joe Posnanski wrote.
Aguilera released a statement today saying, “I got so caught up in the moment of the song that I lost my place. I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through.”
It’s actually kind of nice to know that such a superstar is human just like the rest of us.
