Simon Cowell’s new singing competition show, X Factor, will reportedly allow the audience to vote for their favorites on Facebook in addition to the traditional voting methods of calling in and texting votes.
The producers of the US X Factor are hoping to reach the young, social network savvy audience that it has been able to reach with the British version of the show.
It is expected that this new voting application could be in place in time for the launch of the US version of the show, which premieres this fall on Fox.
“In the UK, you will buy Facebook credit like you can now for games on the website, and use that to vote. Phone voting would still be available too,” a source told the Sun.
“In America, you don’t pay to vote because of broadcasting laws. So viewers will vote through an app, or in the way you ‘like’ a celebrity’s page now. It’s a huge, game-changing move.”
If this goes through, it seems very likely that American Idol would follow suit. What do you think?
