Third Watch’s Eddie Cibrian will be playing the lead role in NBC’s drama pilot Playboy.
Cibrian is replacing Jeff Hephner, who was originally cast for the roll, according to Deadline.com. The pilot will begin filming in Chicago this upcoming week.
Hephner landed the role after a series of auditions and producers loved him during his tests; however, the actor had never played a lead role in a series before and ultimately he didn’t impress as he filmed the actual pilot. Ouch. Cibrian was a finalist during the pilot’s auditions.
Playboy takes place in 1963 and centers on the swanky Playboy Club in Chicago. Cibrian’s Nick Dalton is a lawyer, the quintessential playboy and keyholder to the exclusive and glamorous club. Drama unfolds with Dalton’s mysterious connection to the mob.
The cast includes Laura Benanti, Amber Heard, Naturi Naughto, David Krumholtz, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Leah Renee and Wes Ramsey. Playboy is directed by Alan Taylor and produced by writer and executive producer Chad Hodge.
Cibrian has previously co-starred on CSI: Miami and appeared in two episodes of NBC’s The Chase. Cibrian also starred in the Lifetime movie Northern Lights, alongside country singer LeAnn Rimes, who he had an affair with. The two are engaged and reportedly in talks to film a reality TV show together.
