The theme this week was songs from their birth year. Here is what each contestant sang on Wednesday night’s show:

Scotty McCreery – Travis Tritt’s “Can I Trust You With My Heart” (1993)
Casey Abrams – Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” (1991)
Lauren Alaina – Melissa Etheridge’s “I’m the Only One” (1994)
Paul McDonald – Elton John’s “I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues” (1984)
Pia Toscano – Whitney Houston’s “Where Do Broken Hearts Go” (1988)
James Durbin – Bon Jovi’s “I’ll Be There For You” (1989)
Haley Reinhart – Whitney Houston’s “I’m Your Baby Tonight” (1990)
Jacob Lusk’s – Heart’s “Alone” (1987)
Thia Megia – “Colors of the Wind” of Disney’s Pocahontas (1995)
Karen Rodriguez – Taylor Dayne’s “Love Will Lead You Back” (1989)
Stefano Langone – Simply Red’s “If You Don’t Know Me By Now” (1989)
Naima Adedapo – Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got to Do With It” (1984)

The contestant who went home Thursday night was Karen Rodriguez. Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler decided to not use the “save” for Karen this week. Randy Jackson noted the decision was not unanimous. It was not indicated how each judge voted, but there is a good chance that J Lo was the one who wanted Karen to stay.

Naima Adedapo and Haley Reinhart (for the second time) joined Karen in the bottom 3 Thursday night.

Last year’s American Idol winner Lee DeWyze sang his new single “Beautiful Like You” and the Black Eyed Peas performed their new single “Just Can’t Get Enough”.

American Idol returns next week with the top 11 performing Wednesday, March 23 at 8/7c on FOX.
