The theme Wednesday night was songs from movies.

The three contestants with the lowest votes after Wednesday night’s performances were Haley Reinhart, Stefano Langone, and Paul McDonald.

Haley was sent back to safety and Paul and Stefano were left as the bottom two. Stefano is somehow safe again, making Paul McDonald the contestant to pack his bags and go home this week.

Jennifer Lopez, on the verge of tears, requested Paul sing “Maggie May” as his encore.

“You’ve had such an amazing impact on this show,” said Ryan Seacrest.

The contestants sang duets on the show Thursday night and Rihanna performed “California King Bed” and the first American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson, sang a duet with Jason Aldean called “Don’t You Wanna Stay.”

American Idol returns next week with the top 7 performing Wednesday, April 20 at 8/7c on FOX.
