After 25 years of marriage, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver have announced that they have separated.
“This has been a time of great personal and professional transition for each of us,” the couple says in a joint statement. “After a great deal of thought, reflection, discussion, and prayer, we came to this decision together.
“At this time, we are living apart, while we work on the future of our relationship,” the statement continues. “We are continuing to parent our four children together. They are the light and the center of both of our lives. ”
Shriver, 55, and Schwarzenegger, 63, married in 1986 and have four children, ages 14, 18, 20 and 21.
Shriver is a TV journalist and member of the Kennedy dynasty and Austrian-born Schwarzenegger is a bodybuilder/action movie actor who became a Republican California governor in 2003.
Schwarzenegger left the governor’s office in January. There are rumors that he will return to movies, including a role in another Terminator film.
