Peter Falk, the star of the long-running detective television show Columbo, died at the age of 83 on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at his home in Beverly Hills, California.
Falk’s family announced his death in a statement this morning. Falk battled dementia and Alzheimer’s disease in recent years.
Falk, known as the disheveled, seemingly absent-minded character who always wore a raincoat, won four Emmys as Lt. Frank Columbo. The first episode of Columbo aired in 1968 and the final episode aired in 2003.
The actual cause of death has not been released.
