Winehouse died Saturday, July 23, 2011 in her London home at the young age of 27. Autopsy results gave no indication of cause of death and the results of the toxicology reports will take months.

A family friend says that Winehouse’s doctor told her to gradually cut back her heavy drinking, but Winehouse ignored those orders and quite cold turkey last month.

“[Winehouse's father, Mitch,] said doctors had told Amy to gradually reduce her intake of alcohol and to avoid bingeing at all costs,” the family friend says. “Amy told him she couldn’t do that. It was all or nothing and she gave up completely.”

“Abstinence gave her body such a fright, they thought it was eventually the cause of her death,” the source continues.

“Mitch said the shock of giving up, after everything she had been through over a bad few years, was just too much for her to take.”

Winehouse’s funeral took place Tuesday, July 26 in North London.
