Giuliana Rancic announced on NBC’s Today show on Monday that she has breast cancer.
Rancic, 37, said the tumor was discovered during a mammogram while undergoing another round of in-vitro fertilization in an effort to get pregnant with her husband Bill Rancic. She says the cancer was detected early, so the prognosis is good. E! News host and will undergo surgery this week and then have six weeks of radiation therapy.
Rancic had originally planned to have her mammogram at 40, but her IVF doctor suggested she have it done now – which was a suggestion that may have saved her life.
“Through my attempt to get pregnant for the third time though IVF, we sadly found out that I have early stages of breast cancer. It’s been a shock … A lot of people have been asking, ‘We saw that you went and got IVF, so what happened? Are you pregnant?’ But sadly, we’ve had to put that off,” Rancic said.
“I will be OK, because I found it early,” she said, explaining she would not give up on getting pregnant. “Now I truly believe God was looking out for me … Had I gotten pregnant, a few years down the line I could have been a lot sicker. So this baby saved my life.”
